Our Patriotic Star Suncatchers are the perfect craft to make while enjoying these cookies!
2-Ingredient Cookie Hack
I actually first heard about this cookie hack from Soccer Blog Mom when she baked 2-Ingredient Halloween Cookies—I don’t even have TikTok. But once I made them, my teenagers were hooked! Now I keep a couple boxes of Pillsbury Shape Sugar Cookie Dough on hand for every holiday! They’re so easy to throw together for last-minute invites or surprise company, and the fun seasonal designs make them instantly festive.
Plus, there’s something about the smell of these particular cookies that takes me right back to mall food courts in the ’90s—it’s both nostalgic and comforting.
Ingredients Needed
With just two items from the refrigerated section of the grocery store, these cookies are easy and quick to make with kids.
- 1 package of Pillsbury Salute to Service Sugar Cookies
- 1 package of Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
NOTE: The name of the sugar cookies may vary year to year, but they will always be USA-themed!

Directions for Patriotic Cookies
Just assemble, bake, and enjoy—these flag cookies come together in minutes!
STEP 1: Preheat oven. Set your oven to 350°F and position the rack in the center.
STEP 2: Slice the chocolate chip cookie dough. Use a sharp knife to cut the cylinder of cold cookie dough into 1/2 inch slices.
STEP 3: Arrange the dough on a cookie sheet. Place the slices of chocolate chip cookie dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. (I was out of parchment paper, but highly recommend using it for easy cleanup.)
STEP 4: Stack the sugar cookie dough. Place 1 square of sugar cookie dough on top of each slice. This is the best job for kids!
STEP 5. Bake. Bake the cookies for 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
STEP 6: Let them rest. After baking, leave the cookies on the baking sheet for a few minutes to set, then move them to a wire rack to finish cooling completely.
STEP 7: Enjoy! Dig in and enjoy with friends and family for an easy crowd-pleaser! Store the cookies at room temperature in an airtight container.
Want to Switch It Up?
Here are some fun ways to customize your cookies:
- Add sprinkles. Press red, white, and blue sprinkles around the edges of each cookie before baking
- Serve with ice cream. Turn them into mini ice cream sandwiches or serve warm cookies alongside scoops of vanilla cream.
- Turn them into cookie pops. Dip a lollipop stick into melted chocolate, then press it into the cookie to turn it into a cookie pop. Wrap and decorate with red, white, and blue curling ribbon for an easy party favor or treat for kids.
