How to Make the Best Oatmeal Cookies
These chewy oatmeal cookies are one of the most delicious cookie recipes you’ll find! They are perfect for Christmas, work parties or teacher luncheons, sharing with friends, and of course, enjoying at home with milk or tea. Here’s what to do!
Step 1: Make the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough
The simple combination of old-fashioned oats, flour, sugars, and spices results in classic oatmeal raisin cookies that will vanish off the cooling rack right before your eyes!
Take time to soak the raisins in the vanilla and eggs. It’s the secret to flavorful, moist oatmeal cookies.

Of course, you could replace the raisins with chocolate chips if that is more your style! Or, add both…why choose?
Step 2: Place the Dough on a Parchment-Lined Cookie Sheet
I love to use a cookie scoop for uniform baking. Not sure which cookie scoop to use? This informative post will help you decide.
Step 3: Bake the Cookies
For chewy, soft oatmeal cookies, bake for 8–10 minutes. Be careful not to overcook!
Can I Freeze Cookies?
Freezing cookies is an easy, tasty way to be prepared for unexpected company and sugar cravings! After your baked cookies have cooled completely, place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid.
When the cookies are frozen, place them in a plastic container (these ones are my absolute favorite for freezing cookies) with a piece of parchment paper between each layer. Alternatively, you could layer frozen cookies in a gallon-sized plastic bag. With proper storage, most cookies can be stored in the freezer for up to three months.
To thaw frozen cookies, simply remove them from the container and allow them to sit on a plate at room temperature before serving.
Are Oatmeal Cookies Healthy?
While oatmeal cookies may contain more fiber and nutrients than a chocolate chip cookie, a cookie is still a cookie! I do like to tease that oatmeal cookie are a perfectly suitable breakfast choice, but the truth? Best enjoyed with moderation!
