Scarecrow Popsicle Stick Craft
This popsicle stick scarecrow has been hiding out in my craft basket, along with a bunch of other projects I’ve made over the years but never shared. Each one brings back memories of fun afternoons creating with my boys, yet somehow this little scarecrow kept getting overlooked. I’m finally giving it the spotlight it deserves—just in time for fall!
This craft stick scarecrow is more than just cute—it helps children build important skills. As kids glue, paint, and assemble their scarecrow, they strengthen fine motor skills, follow step-by-step directions, and use creativity. Teachers can tie it into lessons about autumn, farming, or the letter “S,” while parents will appreciate a fun and easy project that keeps little hands busy.

Kids Scarecrow Craft Directions
Follow these easy steps to build a cute scarecrow:
STEP 1: Paint the hat brim. Paint a wide popsicle stick yellow or brown to make the brim of your scarecrow’s hat. Set it aside to dry.

STEP 2: Create the base. Next, line up four wide craft sticks, then glue two mini popsicle sticks across the back to hold them together (see picture below).

STEP 3: Attach the brim. Flip the craft stick base over and hot glue the hat brim to the top (see picture below).

STEP 4: Paint the hat. Cover the top of the hat with the same color you used for the brim.

STEP 5: Decorate the scarecrow’s face. First, glue on two wiggly eyes. Next, add a felt triangle nose. Then, attach two pink button cheeks. Finally, use a black paint pen to draw the mouth.

STEP 6: Decorate the scarecrow’s hat. Hot glue a strip of fabric across the hat, then finish it off by adding a leaf or small sunflower on top. Make sure to gently pull the fabric so the fringe spreads out and shows!

STEP 7: Add the straw. Hot glue a small bundle of raffia to the back of the scarecrow’s head to look like straw hair. Now your popsicle stick scarecrow is complete and ready to display!

Take It Further

- Create a whole class set of scarecrow crafts and display them on a bulletin board.
- Use this craft as home decor by attaching magnets to the back and sticking them on the fridge.
- Write each child’s name on the hat and use them as place cards for a fall harvest or Thanksgiving party.
- Pair this craft with a visit to a farm in September or October.
- No raffia? Use yellow yarn or paper strips.
