I can’t be the only one who keeps a bag of “single socks” in the craft cupboard (a bag, by the way, with ever-growing contents. Seriously, where do these little boys keep losing their socks!?).
Single socks are good for all sorts of things . . . but they are especially perfect for making adorable, mini snowman hats.
To make your own miniature wooden snowman, simply:
1. Hot glue 2 wooden balls together (1 completely round ball for the head, 1 flat-bottomed ball for the base).
2. Paint the snowman white (we used acrylic paint). Use one half of a Q-Tip dipped in black paint to give the snowman a mouth, eyes, and buttons. Dip the other half in orange to give the snowman a carrot nose. Allow to dry.
3. When the paint is dry, seal the snowman with glossy Mod Podge. Dry completely before adding accessories.
4. When the snowman is dry, add the scarf and a hat. To create the hat: 1) Turn a single sock inside out. 2) Tie a ribbon tightly around it (placement depends on how tall you need the hat). 3) Snip the excess ribbon and sock. 4) Turn the sock right side out and voila! A miniature hat – perfect for a wooden snowman, Elf on the Shelf, or a small doll/stuffed animal.
5. Use a hot glue gun to attach the hat to the snowman’s head. Tie the scarf around its neck.
